Champagne Sports Golf Course

Champange Sports Resort Golf Course, Central Drakensberg, KwaZulu Natal / Situated in the Central Drakensberg at Champagne Sports Resort

chamapgne sports golf courseChampange Sports Resort Golf Course, Central Drakensberg, KwaZulu Natal / Situated in the Central Drakensberg at Champagne Sports Resort this course has recently been extended to an 18-hole layout designed by Huch Biaocchi. The backdrop of Cathkin and Champagne Peaks makes it one of the most scenic courses in South Africa and it is a fair challenge for the low handicapper as well as being "playable" by the occassional weekend golfer.

The Course
chamapgne sports golf courseThe course is there to be enjoyed - it’s fairly open but with many hazards. The perfectly manicured kikuyu fairways are generously wide and boarded by light rough and many varieties of trees. This is not to say that the course is easy though - the 84 bunkers that line the fairways and guard the bent grass greens will punish misdirected shots. Water hazards are prominent and the course becomes especially tricky in the wetlands.

Signature Hole
Teeing off on the signature first hole is both thrilling and daunting. This par-five monster hole measures 605 metres, making it not only the longest hole on the course, but also in South Africa. The elevated tee stands taller than the clubhouse and your drive will have to carry over the Strekspruit Ravine and rough to the fairway far below. The green is around the corner of a dogleg left where two bunkers come into play.
